| Overview: |
| A Sampling Technician (also known as a Clearance Technician) may perform clearance testing after interim control projects - but not abatement projects - in single-family residences, or in single units and common areas of multi-family residences receiving HUD assistance. Clearance testing involves several steps: a visual assessment, dust wipe sampling on floors, window sills and troughs, submitting the dust samples to a laboratory recognized by the EPA National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (NLLAP), comparing the results to applicable standards, completing a clearance report, and (if the Sampling Technician is not yet certified) having the Sampling Technician's work and report reviewed and approved by a certified lead-based paint inspector or risk assessor. |
